Excellent and timely response on the Bear Fire from our SCFPD Chief and Volunteers!
During the USFS Facebook Live Bear Fire update September 5th, USFS and CalFire officials expressed gratitude at the immediate response by the Sierra County Fire Protection District Volunteers and Chief that provided a head start on fire operations. During a period of increased winds when the fire initially took off, they started early to work on suppression and prevent what could have been tremendous property damage - and extreme danger for residents. The District is often in "Prepositioning" mode during Red Flag warning days when fire danger is high. Volunteers are primed for dispatch to events, engines and water tenders are in place for mobilization and communication is established to ensure immediate action. Many, many thanks to our Volunteers and Chief who put their own lives on hold to protect us, while often putting their own lives in danger.
